Listen to Our Discussion on AI and How it to Pertains to the Church – Part 2
When it comes to AI, how can we as a church be aware of what is going on, what is currently out there, what is coming and how can we start to utilize it in our churches?
In this article, we continue our discussion with Denis Estimon from churchai.com as we explore these questions and discuss some ideas that can help us to implement AI use in our churches.
There is a big race going on to utilize AI in our everyday lives. Programs such as ChatGPI are starting to announce open source / free versions of their software.
What is currently available that could be utilized in our ministries now? AI can be used for things such as marketing, branding, social media posts, email blasts, blog post teasers, etc.
What is coming? Applications with new features such as voice assistants that:
-sound like a human
-can utilize vision that can see our surroundings and alert us to things around us
-can summarize meetings, take notes
-talk conversationally with low latency and real – time responses
Tasks from Apple will be available as soon as fall 2024.
AI is here, we are already interacting with it, so we should understand what’s out there and get some insight, not to resist or to embrace but to inform ourselves how it can be used in our ministries.
Here are just six ways that we can utilize AI in our churches beyond those previously stated:
01 Creating relative content with websites such as churchai.com and sermonclips.com.
02 Creating blog, sermon, etc. descriptions from transcription for YouTube / social media video posts.
03 Using AI automation for automatically creating things like social media posts from sermon clips.
04 Create human like voice overs from text.
05 Use third-party software to dub sermons into another language in your pastor’s voice.
06 While AI shouldn’t take the place of writing our sermons, but can be used to critique our written ones and give suggestions to improve them.
As there are many more ways Ai can be used, and while AI can be useful, we should also look at some of the dangers of AI and how to address them. Here are just a few:
-There are free, powerful AI models that are open source and free. They can be used to create ill-intending content such as deep fake video and audio, used in spamming and scamming, There is even a website called heyjen that can create things such as video clones from a transcript.
–AI hallucinates. It doesn’t say “I don’t know” so it just makes up an answer. (This is why we see AI generated pictures of humans with three legs).
Final thoughts
Ai is not a trend. It will fundamentally shift society as a whole. In some ways very gradually and in others more rapidly.
We should keep ourselves informed and aware of those things currently available and what is coming. We can discern through the Holy Spirit how to equip ourselves and our people to be aware by keeping up with AI informational websites like churchai.com, which offers a newsletter that can help keep us up to speed.
