In this post, we will look at what makes for a great logo design, and then we will look at the example of the logo I created for Calvary Church.
Problem
What is your logo saying about you? People judge a book by its cover, and your logo is the most seen part of your brand. The problem may be that your logo communicates that you are not relevant to your community.
Solution
Get an updated logo that better relate to your audience and looks good in various forms of media. You will gain brand recognition in the community, so people know you exist.
Result
A good logo increases the effectiveness of your marketing efforts by making you appear relevant.
Tips for creating an effective:
- Know your logotypes:
- Word mark
- Letter mark
- Symbol
- Combination mark
- The design needs to be a vector
- It must be a simple design so it is sticky
- Brand document
- Brand colors and fonts
- Logo variations defined
- File types for your logo: JPG, PNG, EPS
- Store your logo files online so you can share them via a link within the organization; dropbox or Google Drive
- Only use approved versions of the logo to keep the brand consistent
- Don’t use the font that is in the logo in other designs; protect the logo

Example: Calvary Church
This church is a Reformed Church in central Iowa in a community with people that have a church background. The leadership wanted to create an updated look to help the church stay relevant to young families moving into the area regularly.
We designed a mark with a cross and gave it a modern look while combining it with the church’s name. The combination mark provides flexibility for the logo design to be used on all media types. This design reflects the audience the church is good at reaching, which is people looking for a good church home.
The font we used for the logo design has a clean look and is timeless. The green color scheme represents the growth people experience as part of the church and its many programs. Overall, the brand design provides a sense of authority for people to know that their family is in a good place.
